Gale Warnings are up for Delaware Bay and the northern Delaware coastal waters through 12:00 PM, with 20 to 25 kt winds, gusts to 40 kt, and rough water across the region.
Today on the Water: Gale conditions affect the Delaware Bay and Cape May to Fenwick Island waters, while Small Craft Advisories cover the Chesapeake and southern coastal zones. Showers are in the forecast, and radar shows active cells near Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, and just west of Ocean City; the Ocean City cell is moving NNW. Coastal flooding and beach hazards will complicate launches, ramps, docks, and shoreline access.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes β southern VA coast): West winds run 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt today; seas build to 7 to 10 ft, led by an 8 ft northeast swell at 10 seconds. Gale Warning covers Cape May to Fenwick Island waters through 12:00 PM; Small Craft Advisory continues from Fenwick Island southward through 1:00 AM Monday. There is no workable offshore window today. The next notably lighter period is Tuesday night, with west winds near 5 kt and seas around 2 ft.
Delaware Bay: Northwest winds reach 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt, driving 4 to 6 ft seas with short-period northwest chop. A Gale Warning remains in effect baywide through 12:00 PM. Showers and nearby radar activity add to the rough ride. Tuesday is the improvement window: northwest winds around 5 kt and seas 1 ft or less.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Northwest winds are 15 to 20 kt, increasing to 20 to 25 kt this afternoon, with gusts up to 30 kt. Small Craft Advisories extend through 6:00 AM Monday on Maryland Bay waters and through 1:00 AM Monday farther south. Showers remain possible. Tuesday brings northwest winds near 5 kt and flat waves.
Wind & Seas Outlook: The peak wind and sea period is today, with the most severe conditions offshore and in Delaware Bay. Conditions ease substantially by Tuesday, when the lightest winds and lowest seas arrive.
Marine Alerts:
- Gale Warning: Delaware Bay and Cape May to Fenwick Island coastal waters until 12:00 PM.
- Small Craft Advisory: Chesapeake Bay through 6:00 AM Monday; southern Delmarva coastal waters through 1:00 AM Monday.
- Coastal Flood Warnings, Advisories, High Surf Advisory, and Rip Current Statement remain active across Delmarva shoreline areas today.
Best Window to be Out: Tuesday, especially Tuesday night offshore, after winds fall to around 5 kt and seas settle.
Worst Window: Today through midday, particularly Delaware Bay and the northern coastal waters under Gale Warnings.
Bottom Line: Do not plan a recreational launch todayβgale-force gusts, 7 to 10 ft offshore seas, bay chop, showers, and coastal flooding make this a hazardous marine day.
