🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Monday, September 28, 2026

Small Craft Advisories remain in effect on much of the Chesapeake through this morning and afternoon, while coastal flooding affects Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia shoreline communities.

Today on the Water: Northwest winds remain moderate, with the roughest conditions offshore and on the Bay through late afternoon. Coastal flooding may affect ramps, docks, and low-lying access roads. Radar is quiet across Delmarva with no active cells within 50 miles; forecast showers are limited to early this morning and scattered activity on the Bay.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt are producing 3 to 4 ft seas, including short-period NW waves mixed with longer-period easterly swell. A slight shower chance is confined to early this morning. The better offshore break comes Tuesday, with seas around 2 ft.

Delaware Bay: NW winds 10 to 15 kt and 2 to 3 ft seas make for a choppy daytime run, especially in exposed reaches. Conditions ease tonight as winds fall to around 5 kt and seas drop to 1 ft or less.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Small Craft Advisories cover much of the Bay. NW winds 10 to 15 kt, gusting up to 20 kt until late afternoon, will hold waves at 2 to 3 ft. Scattered showers are possible, but radar currently shows no active cells. Winds diminish to 5 to 10 kt late.

Wind & Seas Outlook: The peak wind and sea period is today, with the Atlantic holding the highest seas at 3 to 4 ft. Tuesday brings the lightest winds: NW around 5 kt, turning SW offshore in the afternoon.

Marine Alerts:

  • Coastal Flood Warning: Inland Sussex and Delaware Beaches until 2 PM.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory: Inland Worcester and Maryland Beaches until 11 AM.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory: Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset until 6 PM.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory: Accomack and Northampton until 2 PM.
  • Small Craft Advisory: Chesapeake Bay north of Pooles Island until 6 AM.
  • Small Craft Advisory: Chesapeake Bay, Eastern Bay, Chester River, lower Bay, Tangier Sound, and listed Potomac/Choptank waters until 2 PM.

Best Window to be Out: Tonight on Delaware Bay, after winds ease to around 5 kt and seas fall to 1 ft or less.

Worst Window: Today through late afternoon on the Atlantic and Chesapeake, with NW 10 to 15 kt winds, gusts to 20 kt, and elevated seas or waves.

Bottom Line: Hold off on exposed Atlantic and Chesapeake trips today; Delaware Bay improves tonight, with the more favorable broad-water window arriving Tuesday.
