🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Thursday, October 1, 2026
Light southerly flow makes today the workable day, but a stronger northerly turn brings rougher conditions and showers by Saturday.
Today on the Water: No active marine alerts. Conditions are generally manageable today, with the calmest water in the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay. Radar is quiet across Delmarva with no active cells within 50 nm, though showers are in the forecast at times later in the period.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): South winds 5 to 10 kt with gusts up to 15 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt late. Seas run 2 to 3 ft, including a short-period south wave and easterly swell. Today is the best coastal window before conditions deteriorate Saturday. Showers are possible later in the forecast period.
Delaware Bay: South winds hold at 5 to 10 kt with seas 1 foot or less. This is the most protected option for smaller boats today. Saturday brings north winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt before becoming northeast 5 to 10 kt in the afternoon, with seas around 2 ft.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Southwest winds near 5 kt and waves less than 1 ft make for the smoothest conditions today. Waves build to 2 to 3 ft Friday night with gusts up to 20 kt as winds turn from south to west after midnight. Saturday turns choppy with north winds 15 to 20 kt, then northeast 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon, with gusts up to 25 kt.
Wind & Seas Outlook: The first uptick comes Friday night on the Bay, followed by the rougher widespread period Saturday with northerly winds and coastal seas 3 to 4 ft, occasionally 6 ft. The larger offshore sea build arrives Monday night, reaching 4 to 5 ft and occasionally 7 ft as north winds increase to 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt.
Marine Alerts: No active marine alerts.
Best Window to be Out: Today through early afternoon, especially Delaware Bay or Chesapeake Bay, before southerly winds increase late.
Worst Window: Saturday, when northerly winds, showers, and coastal seas occasionally to 6 ft make for a rough ride.
Bottom Line: Launch today if you need water time, but plan around a notably rougher northerly pattern arriving Saturday.
